My friend that we just bought our '91 525i from owned 2 different Porsche 944s before purchasing the BMW. The first 944 was an '83. He sold the '83 944 and bought an '87 944 Turbo. That was 5 years ago. He kept it for 4 years until buying the BMW. That car was amazing. He had taken it to PowerHaus in Phoenix, AZ a few times and they had done some tuning/tweaking to it. To this day, I'm still not sure of what all was done, but it was quick and fast! I remember one time clocking it running 0-60 in about 5.1 seconds with him driving, myself in the back seat, and a larger friend of ours in the front seat and running on slick, bald tires. I watched him race some of the local crotch rocket guys a few times. He would hang with them, and often leave them!

Alas, the car had well over 100,000 miles on it. In fact, he put over 100,000 on it in the 4 years he owned the car. Repair costs were beginning to kill him, so he sold it. They were never really major repairs. Mostly little smaller things, but those can add up quickly.

He sold the Porsche and bought the BMW, which he kept for a little over a year. We bought the BMW and now he is in the market for either a 944 convertible or a 968 convertible. The Bimmer just wasn't fast enough for him, I guess.
