Rafa -

Owned a 944 turbo about 5 years ago.

Absolutely sensational handling, balance, braking etc.

Absolutely untennable running costs - over the time I owned it about $5-600 per month average costs in maintenance and repairs.

By comparison, the E34 has cost me little more than scheduled servicing. E34 also seems to be better at the 100-120,000 mark than the 944 was, with some major costs still to come when I finally (in relief and some sadness) sold it. If you're happy with that, go for it - they are an amazing car - but you will need to be prepared to regularly put your hand in your pocket. However, rather than a turbo, I would recommend a 944 S2. More torque, not that much performance difference in real driving terms, and a lot less stress (=cost) on the driveline and brakes.

Good luck.

Hello all.

I have had three BMWs to the date (four, actually), and I already know them pretty well. I know about their reliability, their handling and all the works. Did much of the maintenance myself. Loved all of these BMW's. I am a student pilot in USA, and I have to get rid of the BMW I have here because I am going back to Europe. I had in mind to buy another BMW there (used, probably a 92 E36 or a 94 E34, or something like that), but I've been checking some Porsches. For a little more than I can buy a 93 325i, I can get a Porsche 944 turbo. I was wondering about reliability in these cars. I know they must handle better than BMW's, but I don't have too much to spare for Porsche maintenance. Anyone willing to help me? Anyone here drives any to compare?

Thanks.
