The strut tube is welded to the bearing spindle/ hub mount. The only way the clearance can change is if the bearing has failed, the strut is bent or the wheel bolts are loose. Try rocking the wheel assembly by reaching behind the tire and pulling outward. There should be no play.

Have you checked the wheel bolts?

I posted earlier about my 18" wheel grinding the front left strut tower when turning. That nuisance is getting worse day by day. Please give me suggestions to get the gap between the wheel and strut bigger. Could it be a loose bearing or sopmething suspension related? The offset and wheel/tire sizes are correct. The wheel bearing isn't making any noise. I have a very slight shimmy when breaking from 60 mph, but it's not too bad yet. Next summer could be a good time to change the thrust arm bushings. I'm switching to stock size winter wheels and tires soon. That of course will stop the rubbing, but I really want to get it cured with the 18 inchers, because the ride was perfect just a month ago. I haven't hit anything, so bent parts is out of the question. Thanks!
