I have just recently replaced the whole cooling system after the radiator hose leaked badly. Now the engine runs hot during stop and go traffic (2-3 mm past the center temp. mark). I searched the database and a lot of people say to "bleed" the system to leak out air pockets to make to engine run cooler. Exactly how do you do the bleeding? (i.e. when the engine is cool or hot, running or stopped?) Please help.

You bleed the system by bringing the car to normal temp, turn on the heater, and open the bleed screw on the thermostat housing. Repeat as necessary.

However, when you have air in the system, you typically overheat badly in all driving conditions.

I recently replaced my thermostat and found that the temp gauge will sometimes read about the 1:00 position in traffic. I think there are two different temp ratings for the thermostat. Did you replace yours? If so, what temp is stamped on it?

Just some thoughts...
