I did the 02 sensors change in my wifes 740il this past w/e took about 1.5 hours at the most.

If you have a 540 it should be the same as the 740.

Jack up the front and use jack stands.

Spray them down with plenty of WD-40 when cold. I could not get any kind of sensor socket to work[no room]. Just cut off the connector ends and use a 22mm closed end wrench [12 point] You only have so much room to work.
