Yes Robert, its the same on the 540 and the 740. car does need to be off the ground 1 foot. I didn't lower the exhaust. Just use a 22mm combination wrench [closed end] and cut off the connector ends.


I replaced my O2 sensor in my 1991 535i about a year ago and it was a real pain. It is directly on the top of the catalytic convertor. I had to lower the whole exhaust to get to it. I think next time I'm paying to have it done. If you have a 535i, you'll have to have the entire car up in the air at least a foot to lower the exhaust enough to get to it. Good luck!
