They are electrolytic capacitors. If you look carefully you will see the damaged ones, on the earlier car you will have 5. The second row down the outermost one is usually the one that fails first. Closest to the edge of the board. If you look at the base of the can, You will see its pushed up and kind of oozing out of the bottom. A black rubber seal usually. Any electronics supply house should have them. You want the 105c rating if you can get it. Its a higher quality capacitor.If not get the 85. The voltage and microfarad ratings are on the side of the cap. It wont hurt to step it up a little. There is a negative and positive leg on these make sure you install them in the same way as the original ones.
I have followed the instructions for the correction of the E34 instrument panel from Bruno's site. The cluster is disassembled and the board is in front of me...
Question: Where do I buy the replacement capacitors and what is the technically correct name for these caps?
