New one may be stuck open or failed. Most common failure is open, so car never come to temp unless in warm climate.


check your fan clutch and see if its locked up.
it should freewheel in those temperatures, something I dont have much experience with.

Last week I posted a message asking about how much heat I should be getting from '91 525i. I followed the suggestion and had the coolant flushed and replaced. Also replaced the thermostat. Also asked them to replace the micro filter, There was none there! so simply installed a new one.

Before and after the service heater output is the same. The temperature gauge gets just barely over the blue in normal driving. If parked idling it gets a little higher. Today it was -15C and there was enough heat but what about when winter arrives?

Should I block the front of the radiator?
