I think they recommend changing it every 60k to 80k, but check it for yourself.
Climb under the car, in the middle and look at it from different angles (both sides of the car). Wrap your hand around it too and feel for chunks missing.
If you see any fraying or chunks missing from it, CHANGE IT soon!! If that goes, your drive shaft will fall down and I shudder to think of the possible injuries or the cost of repairing it.
It's pretty easy to do by yourself if you have some time. It took about 2 hours on my '88 528e, and that's cause i had to remove most of my exhaust.
I've seen postings before about the guibo. What is it and what would be the signs of replacement time?
