I am curious about the different types of brake drums available and if they make a whole lot of difference for non-racing driving (normal driving). I want to make my car as safe as I can and spending a some extra money to do so really doesn't bother me.

Cross-drilled, slotted, drilled and slotted...I know they help dissipate heat and water and should reduce fade if in situations of heavy, extended braking periods (mountain driving), but what about pad life and do I really gain that much improvement?

What about drilled vs slotted vs drilled and slotted? Any comments, suggestions, brand recommendations?

thanks
