I suspected that this was certainly premature wear, even for stock bushings (though the E34 is notorious for this problem).
I installed the bushings (with new thrust arms) myself. I am a reasonably competent with a wrench - have successfully rebuilt an engine in the past among many other mechanical endeavors. And Yes, I did the final torque of the mounting bolts with the car on the ground. I did not actually load the front seats with weight equal to a person or so. I would not think that this would necessarily cause this degree of premature failure???
The car is behaving somewhat differently than the first time I replaced the bushings. The first time there was a big shimmy at 55 MPH. Now there is no real shimmy at 55 but a real big shimmy under hard braking. Is this a clue that would lead to something else? Also I can feel a slight modulation of the brake pedal as the car shimmys to its final stop.

The 750 bushings should have lasted MUCH more than 30k! I have read and heard reports of the Urethane Bushings transmitting more vibration/nois onto the chassis.
BTW - Were they installed correctly, with the final torquing of the bolts done with the car off axle stands, wheels on the ground/ramp and a load in the front seats?
Oh, and trust me on this one, dealers don't always do it right...my wifes Audi A4q new TA arms and bushings were incorrectly installed and torqued down by my dealer. I argued with them about this and they basically didn't care and blew me off. I then rechecked my information, found that I was STILL right so I called around I found that only 1 of the 3 local Audi dealers knew that they had to load the suspension to finish off the job....I now go to them!
