I bought the pwr-1 from crutchfield as well (along with a pioneer head unit). HISS HISS HISS. A piece of crap - completely inappropriate for our setups. I tried a number of things, and finally gave up, ( but then, my radio still works - just the tape is fritzed).

The one thing I did do, that might be a little helpful, is I made my own wiring harness with parts from radio shack. I wanted to re-install the original radio when I sold the car (not that I will ever sell my E34), so rather than splice/solder everything I bought a couple of connector male/female pairs, soldered everything to them, and viola!

It made it real easy to reinstall the original radio when I finally gave up >:-|

good luck.

sriffe, '90 535i. Same damn radio I started with.

My factory radio freaked out and seems to think there is a tape in the tape deck although there
