The block has not been replaced. We live in the Netherlands, and I don't think sulfur is an issue here, so the Nikasil should be OK. Up untill two days ago, the engine ran perfectly, and didn't seem to miss a beat.

Have you had the block replaced?

When my wife tried to start our '93 530i v8 yesterday, it wouldn't go. The starter spins allright, and so is the engine apparently, but it's like there is zero compression. It sounds like the starter motor runs faster than usual. The duplex timing chain on the left side of the engine can be inspected through the oil fill opening, and seems to work as it should. I have not yet inspected the other bank, because it involves much more work. Anybody have ideas?

Thanks,
Roger
