This happened on my 1985 318i and it was a pain in the ass because I had everything checked and even bought 2 new batteries before I found out this little trick. I was told that in the case of the e30, they only did it in 1984 and 1985, so I would be surprised if the 1989 models had it, but if they do, you had better replace it quick. Consult someone who has a Bentley, it will definitely be in there.



According to "current BMP catalog":

Tech Tip (page 114)

"Make sure that the alternator warning light on the dash is working. If the bulb is bad, the alternator will not charge."

My light is out and doesn't start charging until 2500-3000 rpms have been reached once. This problem ran my battery down, letting it warm up yesterday morning.
