Auto-Matic Shift Stick ? (archive)

On my auto-matic shift stick on the bottom, theres this long black piece of plastic with ridges on it that goes around the stick at the base, and its warped and crumples when i put it in "D". Whats this peace called and how can i fix it? or do i have to buy a new one.
