If worse comes to worse, then try attaching some large vice grips to the shaft about an eigth inch in front of the joint and sticking a large screwdriver in between the vicegrips and the joint and prying like that. Unfortunately this chews up the shaft sometimes where the vicegrips are.

I need to replace the u-joint that attaches the steering shaft to the gearbox. I've managed to remove the gearbox side, but absolutely cannot remove it from the steering shaft. I have the bolt out, just can't slide it off the end of the shaft. I tried Liquid Wrench, I tried wedging a screwdriver in the slit with a hammer, I tried prying along the slit, and I tried heating it up. I don't think it's seized up, as I was able to move it a fraction of an inch (but that's it!)

Does anybody have any tips or tricks they could offer up? TIA

Dano
