If you have a coolant leak into the oil it doesnt look like chocolate syrup, it looks like a chocolate shake. Kind of a light brown tan frothy. Not dark like syrup. You can have the cooling system pressure tested to determine the leak. There is a litmus paper test to check for combustion gases in the cooling system. You can use an emissions analyzer with the engine running and check the expansion tank with the cap off If any hc shows up there then the head gasket is leaking. While the heads off, do the valves and guides and seals. Check the timing chain guide rails and the tensioner.
Is there a definitive test for a leaking head gasket? I am loosing coolant, and I have looked at the oil - looks murky, about like chocolate syrup. What are items that should be done while the head is off if I do it myself?
Anything in particular to look at while I am doing it?
