Also in addition to what Bill S. said you may have a sticking caliper and actually wore one pad with sensor down in 4 weeks. Never hurts to check.

You may have a cut wire on the sensor, splice it back to fix. To delete just cut the sensor off the wires and splice together to make a permenent circuit. Any open or ground gets the message.

I replaced all pads and sensors about 4 weeks ago. Yesterday while driving home, the stupid "brake linings" message just decides to come on again. WHAT!?? Do I need to buy ANOTHER sensor again!? I love the car but, to me, this is the stupidest warning system on the thing. I can tell when my brakes are going bad. Is there a way to just permanently kill the "brake linings" warning system? It's a great idea for some old farts that don't pay attention to their car. Then again, people like that don't enjoy driving enough to have a BMW. They should go buy a Mercedes.
