As far as your question about it being fine @90k, if it is good now, many believe it will be fine down the road. But if the car is still covered under the warranty, I would go to a dealer and have the Tests done just to see how bad (if at all) it is.

First Off - thanks to all that responded to my earlier question - takes a load off my mind for sure! - here's another:
A friend of mine just bought the car (1994 540i) with 95K miles - idles very rough and rich (Oxy. sensors, we'll change next week - just in case) and I am afraid to tell him about the V8 cylinder sleeve problems many have experienced - so here's my question:
1. If the motor has never been replaced - at 90K miles, should I assume the thing is alright long term?
2. Is it a matter of "when" and not "if" the cylinder sleeves let go - what's the general warranty on such a catastrophe?
The V8s are new to me - and I'm helping him sort the car - so forgive my ignorance, guys.
All the Best - and TIA!
