E34s are elegant. E39s are rather sleek and aggressive, but not really elegant.

If what onlookers have to say about your ride is the most important thing, go with the E39s - I believe the general consensus on this board is we enjoy these cars as they are among the last BMW products to expose traces of a "soul". Besides us, not many would consider them beautiful, but rather "an old piece of ... that costs more than my new Accord."

So get into E34s by being a believer, not a mere onlooker. Pictures are not a criteria.

Now, leaving the artistic crap out, if you're a gearhead you'll have much more fun with the E34s - they are not the "all-plastic all-electronic" toys the E39s are and they won't cost you an arm and a leg for basic maintenance even.

Again, leaving the technical stuff out, what can bring you a nice M5 would only bring you a beaten automatic E39. I dare say there's not many finer E39s (save for the M5) nicer and with more panache than an E34 M5. 540i ? - everybody and their brother drives one..

So - express your choice and let us know. Post your name too - that's polite..
