but, in addition to snow tires doesn't anybody use sandbags in the trunk anymore to put more weight over the rear wheels?

I've got a '92 535i 5spd, I'm assuming there is no LSD. Anyway, this will be my third winter. I don't feel my car is safe at all, at least in adverse weather. First, in the rain, I feel at anytime during a turn the car can lose the rear end. I actually did a 180 a year or so ago coming around a turn. Anyways, I'm in Illinois, today we had some snow, I take off in second gear, get up to about 15, shift to third. Cruising at 15 in third, applying the gas makes the car's rear end go left, immediately. In a parking lot, I can spin the car like nothing, just to test it, I've done a lot of parking lot tests and feel I can predict where it is going, so I feel a bit safer on the road. I just am getting passed by all these cars, but I can't even take off from a stop light without a few rear end slides, and believe me I take it really easy, 2nd gear starts at idle speeds, switching to third soon, I feel running this slow in third is also bad on my car, sometimes around 1k rpms, but thats were I feel safest. The car has new front tires, and fairly new rears, but it's allways been like this, even when I had all new shoes. I've never had snow tires, but even in the rain, I feel this car is way to loose. My previous driver for about 2 years or so was an '88 Audi 80 quattro, which obviously had none of these problems, but I've driven many cars, this just doesn't seem right. Well, enough of my ranting, any tips? I'm in central IL at the time, we only got a few inches, but some good ice, but I'm heading to Chicago for a month thursday, we got a foot up there, and I'm not really scared, I actually have fun, but sometimes, when cars are around me, I just want them to get the hell away from me before I smash them with my left rear quarter panel :). Any tips would be great, do you Automatic drivers have any of these problems? LSD people? ASC? ASC+T? Well, I'd love to hear from you, thinking of eventually switching back to an Audi, A4 or older '94 S4 quattro, but it would obviously be a downgrade despite the 162k miles on my clock. Well, enough of my ranting, any tips?
