I have not needed extra weight. I have good snows on all corners. Without them car was undrivable on ice or slush. Even with good tires be careful with accelleration on curves.

BTW My wife's 96 mustang is an other story! Undrivable in winter without narrow snowtires and 300 lbs in trunk.

but, in addition to snow tires doesn't anybody use sandbags in the trunk anymore to put more weight over the rear wheels?
