For performance, I would start with shocks, springs, and sway bars. Perhaps brakes as well. For brakes though, I would just wait until what you have on there wears out and get something slightly better than stock (I am currently using ATE powerdisc rotors on the fronts with Metal Master pads and am happy)
There are also big break upgrade kits out there. (check the archives for more info on that)
as for engine performance, most here recommend the JimC (landshark) chip. You can get those from www.turnermotorsports.com.
Wheels are more of a personal preference item, so I will leave that alone.
As for tires though, I am really happy with my Bridgestone Potenza RE730's. I think there are quite a few here using those acutally. They are a summer tire though, so if you are around snow you will need winter tires too. (good use for your current wheels if you are going to be getting new ones)

Thanks for the advice from this board. I took the advice and found a 94 525i 5spd (instead of an Automatic) with 84,000 miles for $13,000. Any suggestions from the group on the best performace upgrades for it and any good sources to get new rims for it. - Thanks
