In Reply to: Noisy injectors... Stupid theory #237 posted by Bill R. on December 13, 2000 at 10:02:20: was noisy valves. This was after I had set them to .014 as recommended by many on the board. The (legendary) Callen, BMW mechanic guru, who no longer participates in the board, told me to set my valves to .012 cold.

Fixed all noises under the hood...even though I could have sworn it was my injectors.

Just something to throw into the old mix...

Awhile back somebody posted about noisy injectors and talked about replacing them. I have cut them open before and failed to see what could cause excess noise. Then I started thinking about it and came up with the rubber oring seal that is used to seal the injector in the manifold. When new they are soft and absorb noise. They also isolate the injector so it doesn't really touch the manifold firmly. When they get old they get hard like bakelite plastic and probably transmit noise easier to the manifold where its magnified? Worth a try before buying new injectors anyway........
