As far as I know Techron is the only BMW approved (archive)

Amount are so small that Techron itself wouldn't pollute the oil, however if the engine is very dirty the resulting clean out might leave some extra contaminates in the oil. An oil change never hurts.

Yes, I understand that you need to change your oil after treating with Techron.
