Over the last few weeks, it seems as if my 89 535i has sprung a major leak. Whenever I drive with the sunroof open or the windows down, I am absolutely gassed with exhaust fumes (we're talking nausea, coughing, etc.)

When I park the car in the garage, there's a strong smell of gasoline mixed with exhaust fumes.

I'm going to take it to the shop next week, but any thoughts as to what it may be always help.

Rick

Had the same problem about a month ago ('89 525iA). I could not find the leak myself. No sign of gasoline dripping and no moisture in the engine compartment. I took it to an independent BMW dealership and they fixed it in about an hour. Cost me $100.00. They said that a fuel hose near the bottom of the engine had gone bad. They also said that there are two similar hoses down there and, since they were already replacing one, they went ahead and replaced the other. I don't know if they were pulling a fast one on me, but the problem is gone. Hope this helps.
