I posted a message about a week ago about a "Brake Light" warning that I received on my 1995 525. The best that I can figure is that it is a brake light switch problem. In reading this forum, as well as someone's comment to me, I understand that this was a recall item. My question is as follows: does anyone know if this recall is applicable to my car?
I checked the All Data Web Site ( http://www.alldata.tsb.com/TSB/06/95061916.html) and found that recall number 620496 issued MAY 96 was for "Check Control Message - Brake Lights." Again, can anyone confirm that this was the recall for the brake light switch since it does not specifically say brake light switch (while I suspect that the fix to the control message was to replace the switch).
Finally, I called my dealer and inquired whether or not my car was covered under a recall for this problem and was told that there was no applicable recalls for this problem for my car. I could however get them to fix it for about $100 if the problem is really the switch and not a bulb or buld holder. Therefore, I would really appreciate if anyone could confirm this recall for me. I am not sure if BMW had the problem on the earlier models of the E34 and corrected it while in production of the 1995 E34.
