Nobody here has ever gotten a little screech (in the dry) while downshifting during aggressive driving? What happens when you do that in the slop? I wouldn't want to be ANYWHERE near there!

Maybe I misunderstand you, but downshifting
in slippery conditions can greatly contribute
to putting you into a spin and into the ditch
unless you do it exactly right. I know of NO
safe way to downshift an automatic trans safely
(in slick/icy conditions). In a manual trans car
you have to match rev's pretty precisely not
to risk breaking rear wheel traction and
fishtailing. Engine braking is a good technique
for some conditions, but if I were on really
slick surfaces (ice, snow on ice, slush on ice),
I would not rely to heavily on engine braking.
