because one common error when installing the control arms and their bushings is the failure to pre-load the bushings. That is, the final torque of the bolt through the bushings should be done with the cars suspension on the ground in normal position.. Check to make sure this was done!!

I have a 1991 525i.The steering feels heavy (slow speed only 1---5mph)and does not return to center after making a sharp turn (unless I help it along). The power steering fluid is up to the correct level and I don't get any squeals or noises at full lock and I have checked tire pressure. I just had the lower and upper
control arms changed and this started happening.

any idea's
