After driving a 535 auto I don't think you'll be very happy with the lower torque of the 525 engine on an automatic car. Keep the 535.

A while back I requested information about the 1992 525iA. My neighbors mother is selling her ex-husbands Maroon 525 with approx. 73,365 miles, he was the 2nd owner, purchased from a BMW Dealer about 4yrs ago for $9,500 neg. I was able to see the car today and these are a few things I noticed:(1)Needs front shocks/maybe rear (2)When idiling the thermostat reads at the middle, but when driving the needle stays at 1/4,then returns to middle when at idle (3)Noise comimg from Guage Console when at 80-90mph (4)The automatic/manuel button worked when engaged, but after using it multiple times it would not engage. I had to shut the car off and I guess it reset the system??? (5)Both rear door panels are about to pull off (6)Not sure if the timing belt has been changed. What mileage should it be changed? and (7)The handle for the steering wheel tilt is broken off. Otherwise the engine sounds great and the tranny seems to shift smoothly. Can anyone diagnose these problems? Is the car worth it, as far as price and overall reliability? I currently own a 1990 535iA with 108k and had the head gasket done already, plus suspension (need new front shocks). Do you think I should replace my 535 with the 525? What would be a reasonable offer?
