I've been in Discount Tire and listened to their whole spiel when they try to sell this crap to unknowing customers. $5 per tire for them to cut into your tread. Sorry, that just sounds like some bogus crap to me! They've never tried that crap with me. I guess they know that since whenever I go in there for tires I know exactly what size and brand I want, that I'm not going to fall for any of that. Sadly, my mother fell for it. She was going to get new tires on her truck and I told her ahead of time what brand, type and size to get. She got the right size allright, but she ended up with some cheap POS tires. On top of all that, she paid that extra 20 bucks to have them slice up her brand new tires. I just shook my head in disgust when I found out.
If this "siping" crap is so much of an advantage, then why don't the tire manufacturers design and build their tires that way? I don't buy it. It's bogus. Don't go for it.
