the throttle control system, you must have traction control. Usually when that light comes on there is a fault in the throttle control motor. Next the 1222 indicates not a faulty o2 sensor but one which reads outside allowable parameters, Meaning something is making it too lean or too rich. Air leak somewhere between the afm and the throttle body, Intake manifold leak etc, Don't pry the afm cover off and start diddling with the calibration. Your problem is elsewhere. Stuck open fuel injector etc. Check your plugs and see if one cylinder or more is rich.
Ya know I really love BMW's.......except when I can't figure them out.
Last month after getting car back from paint shop I started getting intermittent EML lamp. Disconnected battery and lamp would vanish for a time. Now it stays ON all the time, even with key off & out of car. Only disconnecting batt will kill it.

Then car started running & idling like crap.
Checked DME codes and found 1222, which Bonneville lists as Lambda #1, which some have translated as faulty O2 sensor, others say it means rich/lean mixture and O2 is actually 1221. So I disconnected O2 connector and engine came to life. Hummed beautiful and dramatically responsive.
So I changed out O2 w/ new one (what a Engineering masterpiece of Sh-- design this is!!)and also found bad vacuum line from intake to bellows, which I replaced. Thought this might be cause of EML. Pulled filter box, checked bellows for cracks, etc. and then started.
Idled much better with better response. I tested AFM w/ slight touch and it caused rpm to stumble, which is supposed to be normal.
Checked DME and 1222 is still there w/ EML lamp brightly lit!?!?!?!

So now I'm going try some other tips found in the archives.
First, clean and gap crank sensor.
Second, install new Bosch silvers, distributor cap & rotor. Third re-fuel tank with fresher 93 and a can of MolyLube injector cleaner.
Lastly, if all this fails I'll pull the AFM and try a trick I found that requires opening the AFM and tweaking the air/fuel screws.

I found mention of an EGO sensor. Can anyone tell me what this is specifically? I'm betting it another damn emissions type piece of crap. It's an outside guess at this point.
I'm running out of ideas and have exhausted the archives.

Any other known tips or suggestions are appreciated.
