Stuck heater control valve. It's a two part valve, one for each side, that is electronically controlled. Here's the el-quicko test procedure.
1 - get your self a 12volt bulb tester.
2 - unplug the 3 wire connector the control valve (located underneath the plastic panel, rear of engine compartment, drivers side)
3 - put bulb tester on each lead (if I recall, one is hot all the time). Bulb should slowly pulse flash...adjust heater temp dial and pulsing should pace should change.
4 - test both sides.
5- if correctly pulsing to both sides, you can assume that HVAC brain is working correctly and you have stuck valve. If not pulsing correctly, you may have a bad temp sensor in the heater box or a bad HVAC brain.
New heater control valve was like $160. I put in a used one for $80. (Parts only). Pretty easy to do it yourself and, unlike the book says, you don't have to drain the entire coolant system.
Valve itself didn't appear to be a part you can R&R. The autoposy on mine valve suggested the water seal had failed, allowing coolant into the electic solenoid causing corrosion.
Good luck,
Let me if I can help further.

heat works fine on the right side. There are a few possible things I think it could be. Plugged heater core on the right side (hopefully not), plugged hose on the right side (not likely), valve for the right side (more likely), or the temp control switch thingy in the car for the right side.
I am sure that this is not a completely uncommon problem, as I think I remember others having this problem before. So what was the cause? the fix? the cost?
