First of all thanks for your input.

My car is a 1990 535i M. The manual states a compression ratio of 9.0:1. The manual's specification's section does say what kind of gasoline but on Page 58 says:

"Your BMW is designed to operate with unleaded fuel with Anti-Knock Index of 87 AKI. This designation is comparable to Research Octane Number 91 RON."

What are they really recommending: to use or not to use 87 octane.

I currently use premium 92 octane. However it runs fine on 87 and 89 octane.

I live in Montreal Canada, may be the gasoline is different.

Please comment.

BMW doesn't recommend premium fuel..they recommed "regular unleaded"... although I always use midrange ... am waiting to use premium when I chip it.
