Keep the 540i. Upgrade it some. Maybe Dinan Stage III and some wheels and tires. That'll run you $5-6K. Then buy either an E30 or an E36 M3. Chances are you'll have to pay more than list for a new M3, coupe or droptop. And you'll have to deal with some a**hole dealer to do it. Plus you'll own a first year BMW with all the attendant niggles and worries that go with it.

Hi,
I have a 95 540i 6spd with 62K mi that I bought 8 months ago--I really like this car. Recently, my finances have improved to where I can now afford a new m3. I am #5 on list for a m3 cab, even tho I would prefer a coupe--the coupe list was too long.I planned to sell my 540, but now I am having second thoughts. The m3 cab will run about 55K--and I am wondering if I would be better off spending 10-15K to Dinanize my 540i to bring it performance up to the level of the M3. I was a thinking of a supercharger and Stage II suspension. What do you all think is the better value for the money--having about $35 to 40K invested in the 540, or about $55K in a new M3???
