Second, if it is the BMW factory pioneer unit (says BMW on it) then it will plug into the prewiring (i think all cars had it) in the trunk with a short cable (send that with it)

If it isn't factory BMW (like mine is Pioneer CDX-M30), then you have to give him the cable that is with it. When I had my changer installed, the Pioneer cable that comes with it did not plug into the factory prewiring. I had to route cable to the back of the head unit which was a perfect fit. This took about 2 hours! There are adapters available so that the pioneer will plug into the factory wiring but these are getting hard to find. So you may have to extract the whole cable that runs throughout the car.

Yours may be set up different from mine as mine is a 1990. Check and see what it looks like.
