I used to use a Turtle Wax product called "Black Chrome" back in the 80's which produced similar results. The active ingredient which produced the shine was an acid, which "burns" the shine into the rubber. Over time, it destroyed sidewalls & rubber bumper moulding of that vintage. Use infrequently or contack Mother's & see if they'll comment on long-term usage. Just my $.02

It was too cold to tackle the suspension on the bimmer today so I decided a quick wash and detail would suffice my yearning for spring. I mosey down to the local Auto Zone and found a product by "Mothers" called, Back to Black. What the hell, I'll give it a try. After a spritz with the wand and a good chamois, I began to apply the stuff to the black mouldings and lower pebble finish as the instructions indicated.
Wow! This stuff really works! All the lower black mouldings and bumper strips shine to high heaven now. I've tried everything on these parts with marginal results, but this is the only thing that has made me say "Wow!"
If you haven't tried this stuff yet and want to bring a brand new looking finish to all the exterior lower black surround and bumper strips, do yourself a favor and try this. You won't be dissapointed.

Disclaimer: I got nothin' to do with this product except use it once...

(I don't think I'll paint the lower surround afterall)
