The farward end is very difficult to get loose on the glass struts. Pops over a ball ended bolt, behind the grommet. BMW has special tool, but it can be done with a long stout screw driver.
Door struts are easy as you can get to both ends, the ball end has a retainer clip. The other end bolts.

Has anyone here changed the glass hatch and rear deck struts on a Touring? I haven't really looked at it yet, but it looks really hard to get to the far end of the glass hatch struts. Any advice? I'm sick of being whacked on the head by the wiper post (really smarts) when I use it. Since I'm tearing the back to bits for wiring harness replacements, I thought this would be a good time to freshen the struts as well. Dos? Don'ts?
