I assume you are talking about you Touring. There is no electric motor in the system, it works off a double power steering pump. If the noise is in the rear it is most likely either an accumulator or a top shock guide (bonded center is loose) or both. These are not easy to replace but are DIY projects. I've done both, the most difficult is being sure to get all the pressure off the accumulator before disconnecting the lines.

Hello Lads (heh heh) and Lasses,

Those of you who've had a self-leveling system die, can you tell me how it happened? I'm getting a long, loud noise from the left-rear of the car shortly after startup, sounds like a dying electric motor. I assume that it's the accumulator... and that this system is about to die. Sound right?
