In Reply to: 1995 525i doesn't use lifetime ATF so change it, posted by Jim Ross on February 18, 2001 at 23:53:05:

there will be a huge yellow sticker next to the fill plug indicating it's "lifetime" fluid if it is a lifetime fill unit. Our late-95 build 525 has it. Don't know when they phased them in.

'97 540/6 <- even this one has "lifetime" fill

'95 332 redline ATF in its Getrag manual tranny

change the filter inside as well, and don't forget to wipe all the metal fragments off the donut shaped magnet while you are in there. Mobil One or Redline are excellent replacement fluids. Good luck -Jim

I have a 1995 525i that has just broke 100K kms last week. I know that the tranny fluid that is currently in the car is supposed to last the life of the car, but I do not believe that. I think that the fluid is due for a change and I do not know much about the matter. Can anyone tell me if I should go ahead and change the fluid and if so, what type of fluid should I use. I live in Toronto and I was wondering if anyone has done this in the area, and if so, where did you take your car to get it done? Anyone's advice or knowledge in the matter would be greatly appreciated.
