Was the engine running as you watched the hose (archive)

explode? if so, then what you were seeing is either a stuck pressure cap on the expansion tank or the head gasket has blown and built pressure faster than the expansion tank cap could release.
Sorry for the possible bad news.

Temp gauge climbed to hot. Pulled over opened hood and watched upper hose expand and eventually blow up. Antifreeze now covers my car. Two questions. First has anyone had this happen to them and why? Second is it a pain to get to small part of hose that disapears under intake. Ps it was a fairly new hose!!!!! Any help would be appreciated. I will be diving out to my wounded baby tomorrow afternoon to rescue. Callen 91 535i 5spd.
