Sorry but I have just ( well 4 months ago ) had same sort of my heat just kept going up and down and preformance was bad and it was the head gasket, cost me £1000 includeing the stage two service after wards, make sure they presure test and skim the head !!!
Other wise could happen again within 3 months.

Temp gauge climbed to hot. Pulled over opened hood and watched upper hose expand and eventually blow up. Antifreeze now covers my car. Two questions. First has anyone had this happen to them and why? Second is it a pain to get to small part of hose that disapears under intake. Ps it was a fairly new hose!!!!! Any help would be appreciated. I will be diving out to my wounded baby tomorrow afternoon to rescue. Callen 91 535i 5spd.
