Just picked up a 95 525i and same problem, no manual. Today I ordered a Bentley from B&N and should be seeing it by the end of the week. That switch is for manual shifting. I tend not to use it because this car has had no problems and with 110k miles on it, I don't want to mess around with anything. I love the car and will probably upgrade to a newer model next year.
