Long-term, the 5000's should cost you less. The treadwear rating for the 5000 is 340, while the 4000 is only 240. While the price is only 68% of the 5000, the treadwear is 70% of the 5000. When you factor in the cost of mounting new tires after the 4000's wear out, the 5000's will be cheaper. When you also consider that the 5000 has the latest technology, and has a better traction rating, it would be hard to pick the 4000's over the 5000's. I've got about 10k on SP5000s, and they look like new. As everyone else has mentioned, they're terrific in both wet and dry conditions, and they'e quiet and comfortable. A lot of bang for the buck.
