I recently became the owner of a 1995 525 Touring (Sport Wagon). At speeds above about 50MPH there seems to be a lot of wind noise coming from the hood, wipers and or mirrows. Is this a known problem and are there any fixes?

I'm used to the quiet of my 1987 528e.

Ray and Flyd, here's my post from '99, loose wiper trim pieces are probably the sound you are hearing. The fix only takes about 10 minutes.

From Ricky in '99 "i have a 90 525. it seems like when i drive over 70 mph. i get a vibrating sound at the instument panel area. if i go less than 70 or 65 mph the vibration disappears. Does anyone have any idea what might be causing this?
: I would appreciate any opinions."

Ricky, i posted this a few weeks ago....sounds like it's the same problem--very annoying 'til i fixed it.

My guess is it's the plastic trim at the bottom of the windshield/around wipers, it's pretty common. You can check it out first by wedging some thin cardboard under the trim pieces, but i was pretty sure they were loose so i just went ahead.

Here's what i did about a year ago, and haven't had a problem or rattle since. I CAREFULLY removed the plastic screws that hold the trim pieces in place, remove the trim pieces and put small tabs of two sided tape (molding tape from any autoparts store) on the back of them along the front (windshield) edge and at the contact points. You could run it the entire length, but i thought it might block water, so i just did them about every 1-2 inches. Reinstall them and use your finger to tap on them checking for any rattles. Add more tape if necessary, and you should have a quiet rattle-free 5er again.
