Our stock BMW header is unequal length header... so there is some power loss as several cylinders must work harder to eliminate exhaust. Any engine can benefit from larger header also... although appropriately sized.

Even the new M% benefitted from aftermarket header... there is an article in Bimmer all about this... just by increasing the breathing ability and reprogramming, they were able to gain 100 extra HP to 500...

In that same magazine, they did similar work on 4.4 and were able to gain about 40+ HP with all the work.
