what do i need to retro my r12 a/c to a r134 a a/c.
i was told that i only need a recieve drier. and replace thr oil in my compressor. also conversion fittingsthat screw into the r12 fittings. any way i do need a new compressor so i will get a new one. i priced compressor and was told that they sell one compressor and that can be used for r12 or 134a.

2- how do get into to replace the condensor

3- also my a/c switch does not work when i push it in for a/c, i assume its not going to work until i get freon in the system , is that true

I have done many conversions without changing the condensor(the only reason for changing was for leaking, mostly in the lower corners)the key to doing the job correctly is to get as much of the mineral based oil out of the system as you can. This means flushing the major components ie:condensor, evaporator+draining the copressor.Make sure the conversion is done with Ester based oil,Pag oil will react w/mineral oil+form a caustic acid.I Always replace Drier when doing conversions or when compressor goes bad.2)If you need to replace the condensor the front bumper must be removed.Pop out the side marker lights+remove black trim panel starting from next to the license plate holder.Trim clips into front of bumper+slides into side of bumper.removing th trim will access the 2 17mm nuts(on each side) securing the front bumper in place.Remove the nuts+slide the whole bumper assm towards the front, somtimes tapping on the bumper by the wheelwell area will start it moving.slide it off enough to gain access to fog light wires+temp sender.Once bumper is removed you can unbolt condensor fittings.Next unclip top of radiator(you should also remove fan shroud)and move top of radiator back towards fan,a block of wood holds the radiator back for now.You can see the 10mm bolts holding the top of the condensor in place. After unbolting 2 bolts move the top of the condensor towards the radiator(leave the aux fan in place, but do unplug it,you can swap it over once condensor is removed)then push the condensor up while lifting the bottom channel off the rubber mounts. It is very tight+tricky to move so if your uncomfortable please remove the radiator.after the condensor clears the core support it will slide out the bottom.3)A fuse will cause the button to not light up,or somthing more serious like DME controler/IHKR controler depending on your model.Good luck+stay cool CHIP
