Please excuse my ignorance, but can someone explain ellipsoid headlights to me?
Thanks,
Jim
the ellipsoid lenses can be replaced by it self,as with the non ellipsoid low beams if u crack the lens u have to replace the whole thing, non costs about $55,ellips cost $150
I just went fixing my ellipsoid low beams. Be careful of those mechanics who try to ask you to replace the entire light. There're 2 parts to the light, (1) the external lens & the reflector AND (2) the internal reflector, bulbs and magnifying crystal lens. It works by reflecting the light internally, where the external reflector will receive the light thru the magnifying crystal lens and reflect out onto the road.
You can replace the external or the internal part depending on which one is damage. The internal part is 2x the price of external part. What I did was just cleaning the magnifying lens (where a layer of smog was sitting on top) and I was quite impress with the improvement with zero cost.
Hope this helps.
