Ive changed mine before, I had the same problem as you, only the shift selector light is out....or is it very dim to where its almost impossible to see, a bulb costs $1.00 at auto parts store. Its not your capacitors, its not your LKM module.....there should be 2 screws on the top of the instrument cluster thing....if your looking at the cluster from the drivers seat...you will obviously see the 4 gauages and the plastic cover over them....and the black frame around the clear plastic. Feel at the of the frame and you will notice 2 screws....unscrew them. Then try to wiggle to instrument clsuter out of there....be sure to u hook the 4 connectors first...youll know what Im talking about when you get back there. Since you have an airbag, if you arent easily able to get it out, then id take it somewhere.

Actually, mine went black and I didn't have to buy a new board!!! Changed the capacitors and voila!!

If you have a tilt steering wheel you can tilt it forward and remove the cluster. (you need to turn the wheel with the cluster)
Or follow Bill R. procedure about how to remove the steering wheel. Search the Archive I don't have the link handy.
