1. Car will be underpowered. Even worse than a 525.
2. Car will need DOT / EPA cert. since 520i was not imported to USA by BMW.
3. Insurance will be hard to come by. --
Do some searching on 745i to get an idea of what it is like owning a European only version of a BMW in the US.
Hi All:
I'm looking for a little expertise. A good friend has located a 1988 520i with 65,000 miles. I have yet to determine if this is an E28 or an E34. The only hitch is, it's in Germany. This guy has family over there, and speaks fluent German; so no problems with that. He has the seller agreed to $3300 US.
Questions:
1. Is it even possible to bring this car to the US leagally?
2. This has the M20 engine right? Even though it's a German model, it's going to be doggy compared to a US 535 right?
Thanks for your help in advance. I think he's going to be much better off with a US 535i, either an E28 or E34.
What do you think?
